1:42 The Mongols breaking through the Great Wall of China, 1279 A.D, colorized. Went to see the film last night. After all the awful negative reviews I was expecting a turkey and hardly any audience. How thrilled I am to report that I watched in a packed cinema the most truly amazing wonderful films - one I will never forget.
All of the cast gave brilliant performances and their dedication was never in doubt. The fur criticism is ridiculous - what made each performance was the human facial expressions and movement of the of the supremely talented artists (so important in Cats) like Robbie Fairchild as Munkustrap and Francesca Hayward as Victoria.
Casting Dame Judy as Old Deuteronomy and Sir Ian as Gus were brilliant choices.
The scenery and staging were terrific and involved some amazing pieces such as Skimbleshanks precise tap dancing.
Judy's bringing the production to an end with her wonderful rendition of The Add-ressing of Cats in a spectacular Trafalgar Square setting was masterful and tearful.
My only criticism was the rather laid back and slightly detached orchestra sound in my cinema - nothing like the impact you get with a live orchestra or what the cast deserved. When I get the 4K DVD and use my own HiFi system I will I think be able to sort that out!
Thank you all involved in this production for creating a truly magical entertainment of one of the most famous musicals.
